Battery optimisation
Optimize behind-the-meter batteries
Axle provides optimisation for domestic and commercial behind-the-meter batteries, monetizing directly in the wholesale market via P415.
By default, we take into account:
- the site’s tariff, both import & export
- onsite PV generation. In most cases we’ll self-consumption of solar, and exceptionally export it when export > import rates
- historic energy activity to forecast consumption on the site
Prerequisites
Registration
Register your users and assets. It’s particularly important that tariff information is up to date, as the economics of cycling the battery (importing and exporting) are very sensitive to the amount that the user is paying to import & export at different times.
Dispatch
Configure an option for dispatch which enables control of the battery.
Managing cycling
We can adjust our strategy to respect a cycle limit you impose. Alternatively, if you integrate with our API, you’ll retain ultimate control over asset dispatch.
When optimising domestic assets, our default approach is to take existing user behaviour as a guide to accceptable asset behaviour. For instance, if an asset is not currently exporting to the grid, we will not optimize it to do so unless otherwise instructed.
